Rice County has a rich heritage in agriculture and oil. Major agriculture products grown include: wheat, corn, soybeans, and sunflowers; both dry land and irrigated.
Animal production is another facet of Rice County. Five cattle feedlots can feed over 34,000 head of cattle. Swine operations range from producing weaned pigs to shareholders to finishing hogs and those which do it all. An egg complex houses one million laying hens to supply the table egg market.
The Lyons/ Rice County Airport services the county locally with 3,000 feet of paved and lighted runway, a 2,750 turf crosswind runway (parallel to paved runway), and a 1,750 diagonal crosswind runway.
